Olde Naples (including Port Royal and Aqualane Shores) – South of Golf Drive to Gordon Pass. Beach access on nearly every block and home of the Naples pier. Nearly everything is walkable with some of the finest shops and restaurants in the area. Some of the most beautiful (and priciest) real estate is located in this area. I think they added the “e” to Old Naples sometime after the real estate values zoomed.
Port Royal is the perfect example of asking forgiveness rather than permission. Originally a swampy area with beachfront, a developer in the 1930’s bought up the land and proceeded to dig it up to create waterfront lots (something that would be virtually impossible to do today). He named it after the original Port Royal, Jamaica – home to pirates and various ne’er do wells of the Caribbean. Today, some of the finest examples of luxury homes available anywhere can be found in this neighborhood.
